Although the number of millionaires has shrunk worldwide, it is still a Golden Age for the wealthy, particularly in the US.  Last year, the United States’ millionaire’s club grew by about 1 million members.  Europe, however, lost about 1.8 million US-dollar millionaires.

It should come as no surprise that the US is home to a majority of the world’s millionaires—39% to be exact.  The United States has low taxes and a successful stock market compared to the rest of the world.  Japan comes in second place, with about 13% of the world’s millionaires.  While the US and Japan have about 7% of the world’s population, they are home to more than 50% of the millionaires.

The above chart shows the other countries that have a substantial amount of millionaires, including France, the UK, Germany, Italy, and China.

It seems that almost every powerful country has its fair share of millionaires.  Maps can help us learn more about geography, people, and our vast history.
