At first, you may not think Asheville is one of America’s quirkiest towns, but it has several official titles that would prove you wrong:  One of America’s “Top 25 Art Destinations,” “Happiest City for Women,” “A New Age Mecca,” “New Freak Capital of the US.”  It seems like Asheville has something to offer everyone.  Let’s take a tour of this quirky city.

First, let’s visit Asheville’s many art galleries.  Cruising through Asheville, you’ll find numerous fresh, fun, and fascinating galleries.  Make Blue Spiral 1 your first stop.  You’ll find things like bird sculptures made from credit cards.  Head over to New Morning Gallery and find some of the most elaborate glass and metal vases.

If you walk Asheville’s downtown, you will not see any Denny’s, GAPs or Pottery Barns.  That’s because Asheville is virtually franchise-free, encouraging consumers to buy from locally owned businesses.

Asheville attracts retirees as well as young people with its lively music scene, cheap housing, and outdoor-loving population.  If you are into architecture, you’ll adore Asheville’s quirky, art deco skyline.
