US Worker Productivity on the Rise

Posted on December 19, 2012

US workers are more productive now than they have been in the last 2 years.  Why the big change?  And how can you ensure that your employees remain productive?  DaVinci Business Graphics takes a look.

The Labor Department said that productivity among non-farm workers rose by an annual rate of 2.9% in the third quarter of this year.  This means that the hourly output of US workers has climbed to the highest levels since 2010.

This rise in productivity indicates a few of things.  It indicates that employers are finding ways of getting employees to work harder, rather than hiring extra staff.  Perhaps employers are wary of hiring and training new staff members during a time of economic uncertainty.

Or, it could be that employees are no longer taking their jobs for granted.  Mass layoffs are becoming a likely reality for many companies, and this is perhaps encouraging employees to work harder and secure a future in their industry.

Whatever the cause may be, having productive, happy workers should be the goal of every business.  There are a few things your business can do to increase worker productivity.  Start by familiarizing your employees with company goals.  The better an employee knows company goals, and how their efforts contribute to those goals, the more productive they will be.
