Founded in 1682 by William Penn, Philadelphia served as the capital city of the Pennsylvania Colony during the colonization of New England.  The city quickly grew, surpassing Boston in the 1750’s as the most populous city in the colonies.  During the Revolutionary War, Philadelphia served as an important location for the Founding Fathers and, for a while, it was the capital of the United States.

Today, Philadelphia is famous for its historical sites.  Known as the birthplace of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, Philadelphia offers many attractions that take you back to the time of our Founding Fathers.  The National Constitution Center, Independence Visitor Center, and the Liberty Bell are all must-see attractions for you history buffs out there.

But Philadelphia is known for more than its historical significance.  Namely—the Philly cheesesteak.  Pat and Harry Olivieri are credited with creating the sandwich by serving chopped steak on hoagie rolls in the 1930s.  They began selling this variation of steak sandwiches at their hot dog stand near south Philly’s Italian Market.  The sandwich became so popular, that the brothers opened their own cheesesteak restaurant (which is still in operation today).
